Kenyan Premier League side Shabana FC have raised Sh5 million from merchandise sales since launching their official replicas in March.
Club Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama is delighted about the sales and urged fans to continue purchasing from recognised dealers. However, he raised concerns over the circulation of counterfeit merchandise.
"We are actively working with law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities to identify and bring to book those responsible for this criminal behaviour," Kerama said. "The sale of replicas is one way of raising revenue for the club."
Kerama noted that Shabana receives Sh25 million annually from their shirt sponsor, SportPesa, and earns a significant amount from gate collections. However, he said that the current revenue streams are still not enough to sustain the club throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Kerama revealed they are considering an invitation to participate in a four-team tournament in Mombasa, organised as part of the ODM at 20 celebrations scheduled for October 10–12. Other invited teams include Gor Mahia, Bandari and AFC Leopards.
"We acknowledge receipt of an invitation and we appreciate it. However, this tournament will take place when the Premier League is active," Kerama noted. "Before making a final decision, we await the federation’s approval of the competition. Then we will give our official communication. For now, all our energies and focus are on the league, which kicks off next weekend."
Shabana will open their 2025/26 campaign against the newly promoted Administration Police Service (APS) Bomet at Gusii Stadium on Saturday.
Head coach Peter Okidi said his squad is ready to challenge for the title.
“We’ve had a good pre-season and strengthened areas where we had weaknesses last season. We are ready for the new season,” said Okidi.
Last Sunday, the club held its inaugural Shabana Day celebrations. The colourful event featured performances by local artists, a mini fundraiser, and the unveiling of newly signed players.
