Over 20 school teams and clubs are expected at the Private and International Prep School Sports Association (PIPSAA) Kenya Age Group & Invitational Swimming Championship at the Moi Educational Centre in Nairobi on September 27-28.

The confirmed school teams are Consolata Westlands, Ongata Rongai Academy, Laiser Hill, Lukenya, Kilimani, Mutungoni, Brookshine, St. Christopher's School, Moi Educational, Moi Kabarak, Shah Lalji, Foresight, St. Christopher's, Merishaw and Mt. Kenya Academy.

Among the top clubs are Dashing Dolphins, Umoja Sharks, Fusion, Torpedo, Swimfit Classic Kisumu and Swimming Talent.

PIPSSA Kenya Organising Secretary Rachel Gathoni expects a competitive championship.

"This is our first gala of the season and the response has been overwhelming,” she said. “Clubs and schools have embraced it, and for us, the aim is clear: to discover new talent and give them a springboard to international competition," she said.

"Some of Kenya’s biggest names in swimming began right here at PIPSSA. This is where journeys are launched.”

Swimming is one of the many sports disciplines the organisation undertakes, with interests in football, volleyball and athletics.

On October 5, athletics will light up Kasarani, followed by a skating showdown the following weekend.

On October 12–13, the spotlight shifts to Mombasa for the PIPSSA National Sports Tournament featuring swimming, football, skating, taekwondo, basketball, archery, chess, gymnastics, coding and modern dance.

Organised in partnership with coast-based sports entity Mseto, the Mombasa event has become a household name in the youth sports scene.

The term will culminate with the East African Chipkizi Championship in December in Arusha — the crown jewel of youth sports in the region.

Sanctioned by the Tanzania National Sports Council, the Tanzania Swimming Federation, and the Tanzania Football Federation, Chipkizi draws athletes from as far as Cameroon and Ghana. Swimming, football, and basketball dominate the programme, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a festival than a competition.
