Miracle Koipotot grabbed two tries for Koyonzo while Boniface Makokha converted one try.
Man-of-the- match Clinton Njenga scored a try and converted for the Saints with Nelson Mwaki wrapping up the scores with a try and conversion.
Mumias last won the national title in 2015. It was a repeat of their last group game, which Koyonzo won 19-12.
Mumias coach Jaika Nelson said: “It was a intense final, which would have gone either way. We deserved to win considering how hard we worked.”
He commended the school’s chief principal, Chrispinus Owino, the schools old boys, his technical bench colleagues for supporting the team.
In the third place play off, Bungoma High School beat last year’s champions Friends School Bwake 7-0. Diminutive winger Samuel Wachira crossed the whitewash as Eric Kiplangat adding the extras.
The top three schools are from Western region. The top four teams booked a ticket for the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association games to be held in Kakamega from August 14 to 24.
Veteran Bungoma coach, Titus Wangila, is contended with their third-place finish.
“The standards of rugby in Western region have improved drastically. I am happy with that,” said Wangila.
It was sweet revenge for Kinale Girls when they beat arch-rivals St Joseph’s Girls’ Kitale 17-5 in another entertaining final. St Joseph’s Kitale beat Kinale in last year’s national and East Africa finals.
Elizabeth Wafula scored two tries for Kinale with Wanja Wanjiru adding the third, which was converted by Njeri Wanjiku. In the semifinals, Kinale, coached by Allan Bush, beat St Theresa’s Kithimu 30-7 while St Joseph’s Girls’ Kitale beat Kilifi-based Paul Harris 10-7 in the other semi.
In the third-place play off, St Theresa’s Kithimu beat Paul Harris 17-0.
Despite finishing fourth, Paul Harris coach Diane Sifuna hailed his charges.
“I’m proud of how they played despite the narrow loss in the semifinals. We have qualified for the East Africa games,” said Sifuna. His Kithimu counterpart, Paul Macharia, was happy to retain the bronze medal position.
