Harambee Starlets striker Jentrix Shikangwa is yearning for European football after ending her second stint with Tanzanian powerhouse Simba Queens.
The prolific forward, who joined the Msimbazi-based club in January 2024, confirmed her departure last week following the expiry of her one-year deal.
She said the decision had been made early on and was motivated by the desire to pursue a new challenge outside Africa.
“It’s true I decided to leave Simba after my contract ended. When I joined in January, I had already made it clear that I would only stay for a year,” Shikangwa said.
“I feel it’s time for a new challenge and there’s a strong possibility I’ll be joining a new team in Europe soon, something my agent is actively working on.”
Her exit marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Tanzania, where she emerged as one of the league’s most lethal forwards.
In the 2023/24 campaign, Shikangwa scored 24 goals in the Tanzanian Women’s Premier League, missing out on the golden boot by a goal.
Her achievements helped Simba finish second to champions JKT Queens, who will represent Tanzania in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers slated for September 3-19.
Shikangwa, a former Vihiga Queens player, was part of a massive squad shake-up at Simba, which saw 11 players released, including compatriots Wincate Kaari and Carolyne Rufa.
“I’m thankful to Simba for the opportunity. Finishing as top scorer in my first season and runners-up in the second isn’t easy. It shows the results of hard work, focus and determination,” she said.
“I’ll always be grateful and will be ready to return if the European opportunity doesn’t materialise,” she added.
Shikangwa ruled out a return to the Kenyan league. She will announce her destination in the coming weeks.
