Coach Bryan Mathews is a happy man after his Kenya Handball Federation champions National Cereals and Produce Board met their weekend targets in their push to retain the title.

The unbeaten millers won two crucial matches in two days. They are joint second alongside GSU and Equity Bank on 40 points, behind Ulinzi — 42, but who have played two games more.

"We targeted four points and we took home four points," beamed Matthews.

"The close calls mean the league is heading in the right direction."

NCPB beat Black Mamba 25-22 in a closely-fought encounter that closed Sunday's activities. The winners had an 11-7 advantage at the break.

Morgan Simuyu made six goals while John Waite and Snox Collins each hit four for NCPB who have four games to the end of the season.

Stephen Tembwa registered eight goals and Charles Malema contributed four for Mamba.

Saturday's encounter against Buccaneers ended in a 43-30 victory for NCPB.

Meanwhile, Inspired lost 44-38 to Boomerang as Trans Nzoia dismissed National Youth Service 39-26.

"We lost our last of the season but I have positives to take from the defeat. We are in a good position as we look forward to the new season. My team has identity unlike when I took over," said NYS coach Anthony Naburuck.

Nairobi Water Queens squeezed a narrow 28-26 victory over rivals NCPB.They are second with 38 points, same as leaders Ulinzi Sharks. NCPB are third with 32 points, same as Rangers.
