Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has announced the increase in membership fees ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Friday at the Muthaiga Golf Club, where elections will be part of the agenda.

A circular by outgoing secretary, Chris Kinuthia, said the union has been steadfast in its commitment to promoting and advancing the sport of golf across the nation. Kinuthia will vie for the vice chairman’s position this time round.

"Over the years, our union has grown in membership and stature, facilitating the development of golf clubs and players alike. However, to sustain our operations and further enhance the services we provide to our member clubs and players, it has become necessary to review our affiliation fees,” read the statement.

At the elections, David Ndung’u and Kinuthia are set to be elected as chairman and vice chairman respectively. Ndung’u, who has been serving as the vice chairman to the outgoing chairman Philip Ochola wants to take the helm of the union.

Ndung’u, who is a member of Limuru Club,  is expected to hold office for one year before the next elections. Ndung’u replaces Ochola, who has served his one-year term after replacing Vet Lab’s Njani Ndiritu last year.

The affiliation fee increase was done in 2016 and the current proposal is to increase it from the current Sh3,000 to Sh4,000. "This will be effective immediately if approved at the AGM on Friday.
