Champions National Cereals and Produce Board became the first semi-finalists when they beat Kenya Defence Forces 34-26 in the East and Central Africa Handball Club Championship at Nyayo National Stadium.
The Millers, who topped Pool A with two wins broke off an 8-8 tie inside the first 15 minutes of play to sail to a 16-11 half-time difference.
After intermission, it was only one team that was in the ascendancy. With six minutes to play, NCPB had built a 10 cushion at 32-22 to easily romp home.
NCPB tactician Bryan Mathews said, "We adjusted accordingly to how the opponents played. We want to give our best during the semi-finals."
Timothy Kirimi nailed eight goals and Morgan Simiyu had six for the winners. Gideon Mulwa and Kevin Imo shot seven and four respectively for KDF.
"We had our chances as well but the difference is that we missed the target in many of our attempts and they punished us. Our defence was also not at its best," noted KDF coach Nickson Oyaro.
In another Pool 'A' game, Gicumbi of Rwanda also made it to the semis after they dimmed Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) 40-34.
Equity Bank hit compatriots General Service Unit (GSU) 39-21 in a Pool A game but it was too little, too late, for the bankers.
With Uganda Prisons qualifying after thrashing compatriots Evergreen 37-31 to top Pool A, chances favour Rwanda Police and GSU. The two are on four points.
Simon Mutuku, Rodzi Stower Kevin Mwangi and Rashid Ingwela all tallied four goals for the bankers.
Paul Ondara had five and Fernwick Opicho shot four. Isasymat Anthony shot seven goals and Okello Omar six for Prisons. The losers had eight from Nyanzi Makib.
NCPB women moved top in the women's matches that were switched to round-robin after the South Sudanese teams failed to show up.
The Millers overturned s 12-11 halftime deficit to beat Nkajja of Uganda 28-24. They have won two matches, Nairobi Water Queens have one win and a draw.]
"So far, so good. We have won our two matches and now have two more tough matches to play against Water Queens and KDF but we are ready," said Mathews.
Naomy Muyoka shot six goals while Joan Akinyi and Fazzia Yusuf managed five a piece. Abangit Hilda had five for the Ugandans
The men's Pool 'B' semi-finals will be played this afternoon after the last preliminary matches in the morning.
