Kalyet Boys’ handball team are looking beyond next week's Uasin Gishu county secondary schools games set for next week.

Head coach Brenda Kadi Rutto said their aim is to redeem themselves after falling to Ngoisa 14-12 in Moiben sub-county games over the weekend.

Rutto thinks the loss was a  wake-up call and believes they can go all the way to the Rift Valley regional finals.

With the county school games set for March 24-25, she said they have intensified training in readiness for the county games.

“Last year, we also lost at the sub-county level but we ended up beating the same team at the county championships by six goals to earn a slot in the regionals played in Nakuru.

"Reaching the county level is an achievement in itself but the sky is the limit for us. The players have already learned their lessons and hope to make amends,” she said.

In a fixture released on Tuesday evening by KSSSA Uasin Gishu county secretary, David Seurei, Kalyet lies in Pool 'D'alongside Simat and Kapngetuny.

Pool A has Ngoisa, Wareng, and Cheptigit while Pool 'B' comprises Paul Boit, Lomoru, and Cheptigit. Pool 'C' will feature Tapsagoi, Ng’eny and Moi University.

Rutto said she is looking beyond the county games and wants to improve on their quarter-final exit at the regional level.

She said that she lost almost half of last year’s team after players sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) but that does not kill their team.

" We have been in intensive training to ensure we defend and qualify for the Rift valley region," he added.

“We are taking our training a notch higher. We have introduced weights and changed the gas training terrain. The boys will easily keep up with a game of over 20 minutes. We are working our way out to ensure that we get to the regional finals as we aim for a bigger picture of regionals,” said Rutto.
