•In the heat that was won by Qatar’s Ismail Abakar in 51.29, Kithome clocked 51.52 to finish second making it to the semi-finals while Argentine Bruno De Genaro  placed third in 51.59.

•Winnie Chepng’etich, Kenya’s sole representative in the long jump, also failed to qualify for the event after placing 14th with 5.65 metres.

Kenya's Peter Kithome sailed to the 400m semi-finals after impressing in his heat at the ongoing World Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia.

In the heat that was won by Qatar’s Ismail Abakar in 51.29, Kithome clocked 51.52 to finish second hence making the cut to semi-finals while Argentine Bruno De Genaro  placed third in 51.59.

Kipng’etich failed to make the semis after placing sixth in 53.28 in Heat six. Jamaica’s Antonio Forbes ran away with the heat in 52.45 with  Hungarian Csaba Molnar second in 52.49. Qatar’s Mahamat Abdrahman settled for the third spot in a personal best of 52.50.
