Cheptai, Kiprotich bag silver and bronze in women's 10,000m

Scotswoman won in a championship record of 30:48.60.

Kenya's Irene Cheptai and Stella Kiprotich  bagged silver and bronze respectively in an entertaining 10,000 m race in the ongoing Commonwealth Games at the Alexander Stadium.

Cheptai looked on course for Kenya's first gold medal of the event but was overhauled by Eilish Mcolgan in sprint duel down the final 100 metres with the Scotswoman winning in a championship record of 30:48.60.

Cheptai had to settle for silver in 30:49.52 with Kiprotich finishing a distant third after picking an injury in 31:09.46 to take bronze.
