Kalombo leads 14 Kenyan swimmers to Dubai show

Kalomobo has been entered for the 100 and 200-meter freestyle events.

Kenya's Marine Kalomobo will lead 14 swimmers to the Hamilton Aquatics Summer Sizzler  Championships in Dubai from June 25-26. 

Kalombo has been in superb form this season, winning three gold medals at the CANA Zone IV Championships in Lusaka, Zambia last April. 

She has been entered for the 100m and 200m freestyle events. She will have Saniyah Omoro, Arainana Warui, Nicole Ndirangu, Ivy Aseka, Malia Kemunto and Kagure Maina for company in the girls' category.

In the boys' category, Don Ndirangu, Nathan Waziri, Jesse Kioko, Morani Omanga, Kunyiha Muhoro, Andrew Ogola and Cruz Oduor will fly the country's flag. 

The Kenyan contingent will be looking to rub shoulders with the world's best swimmers. United States, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and Spain are among the countries expected for the event.

Nairobi Swimming County secretary, Kenneth Karani, expressed confidence that the squad will do well after competing in various international championships recently.

"We have a good crop of swimmers who did well at the CANA Zone Four Championships in Zambia and they will be going all out to do the country proud in this event,” added Karani. 

Karani said the swimmers have a bright future despite facing turbulent times with the indefinite ban by FINA. The more competitions they participate in, the better for their exposure at this level,” he said. 

Karani announced that the new swimming season for the County of Nairobi will start on September 24-25 with the NCAA Level 1 swimming Championships at Makini School. 

The Kenya Swimming Championships is scheduled for October 28-30 in Mombasa while the CANA Zone 3 Championships is set for November 17-20 in Dar-es-Salaam.  The national swimming long course championship will be held on March 10-12 at Kasarani.
