Nairobi City Stars quartet of Rodgers Okumu, midfield lynchpin Peter 'Pinchez' Opiyo, defensive midfielder Ronney Kola and stopper Wycliffe Otieno will now focus on their recovery ahead of next season after they were ruled out for the rest of the season.

City Stars will conclude their season against title-chasing KCB next weekend. Over the weekend, Simba wa Nairobi battled to a 2-2 draw with Posta Rangers.

“Peter Opiyo suffered a sprained ankle of the ligament in the 90th minute of our away match against Vihiga United at the ASK Showground on July 21,” team physiotherapist Brian  Odongo told the club’s official portal.

"He was to return to full training on August 1 but upon review, we found it necessary to hand him a further three weeks on the sidelines."

He added: “Okumu picked a chest/lung injury in the game against Wazito (June 30). He underwent immediate medical attention and featured in matches against Bandari, Gor Mahia and Vihiga United," added Odongo.

"He later complained of pain and difficulty in breathing during training and had to take total rest for a period of three weeks beginning August. A review will follow after that period.”

He said Otieno landed awkwardly and had an ankle dislocation in their match against Mathare United on August 7.

“He was rushed to hospital and checked as that match went on and returned for a review three days later. He is expected to sit out for a month before returning to action,” Odongo added.

“Ronny Kola got injured while in action for Nairobi Stima, where he is on a season-long loan. Upon checking, it was established that he has torn ligaments on one of his knees."

"With the application of the right procedures, he is expected to be fully fit within three months.”

Meanwhile, striker Ebrima Sanneh, who had been out with an ankle sprain is now back to full fitness. He was a second-half substitute in the recent loss to Mathare United and in their 2-2 draw against Posta Rangers.
