Kenya Open champion Angela Okutoyi beat Ferdaous Bahri of Tunisian 6-4, 6-1 to romp into the final of the Africa Cup Championship in Botswana.
Okutoyi, who is seeded 10th for the event, was in superb form as she dismantled the North African. She broke the Tunisian serve in the opener and quickly raced to a 3-0 lead. Bahri was not going down without a fight and recovered her poise in the fourth and fifth game to trail 3-2.
Okutoyi won the sixth game to lead 4-2 but a lapse in concentration allowed the Tunisian to tie the match at 4-4. Okutoyi then stepped up a gear on sensing the comeback by Bahri and clinched the final two games to win the set.
Bahri started the second set strongly, winning the opener but Okutoyi quickly took control of proceedings winning the next five games to set up a final against top seed Bechri Chiraz of Tunisia, who eliminated Qastak Linar of Morocco 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in the second semi-final. Okutoyi’s was the only bright spot with the rest of the Kenyan contingent posting mixed results. Ismael Changawa succumbed to Lefa Sibanda of Botswana in a tough three set battle, losing 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 while Kenya Open champion Ibrahim Kibet lost to top seed Anas Fatter of Morocco 6-3, 6-4.
