Lost phone
Archer Shehzana
Anwar suffered another blow.
She lost a very expensive phone through theft.
“We lost a very expensive phone through theft,” her mother Tabassum Anwar, who doubles up as team manager confirmed.
Shehzana was among the 12000 athletes who received top of the range Samsung Edge 7 also known as the Olympic Edition from the South Korean mobile phone manufacturers worth Sh135,000. The phone is among the latest on the market and only 2,000 handsets have been sold so far worldwide.
Rio Taxi fraudsters
I have heard of taxi drivers tricks but I have never come face to face with the situation. However on Monday I experienced first hand a trip that never was. After boarding the taxi and asking the driver to ferry me to my destination, the man took advantage of my naivety and decided to take me on a merry go round. I only discovered this in the third round after spotting my apartment. All this time I was enjoying the back left comfort.
At the end of it all I was minus Sh1,500, very far from my destination and just half a kilometre from my apartment.
Fuel economy priority
There are two unique things about cars in Rio. First, most of them and especially taxis use gas and secondly, most drivers are yet to embrace automatic cars. Here economy is the key word as confided to me by one of the taxi drivers. He said gas is very economical to use with less pollution. He said life is very expensive here and they are forced to weigh options carefully. Besides, most drivers here prefer the small cars- the Toyota Vitz and mini Morris family among others.
