In Summary

• The Kalonzo shenanigans exposed the trust deficit in the two leaders.

• The trust deficit factor will hence overshadow everything else and may torpedo a Raila grip on undecided voters.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka addresses the media at the SKM Command Centre, Karen, on March 1

Twice in days before unveiling ODM leader Raila Odinga as the Nasa candidate at Uhuru Park in 2017, Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka held tightly on my hand and pulled me aside. “This ticket wont sail”, he said the first time.

On our second outing, he was more explicit; “Kabatesi, this ticket will not sell”, he quipped, deep farrows across his face.

The ticket that Kalonzo was denigrating wouldn’t sail or sell and which he was discrediting was the Raila-Kalonzo combination. Somehow Kalonzo preferred a Kalonzo-Mudavadi ticket and there were behind the scene attempts to turn tables on Raila by presenting this as unanimous Nasa ticket. Raila bested Kalonzo, but not before the Wiper leader extracted a secret agreement with Raila behind the Nasa principals.

The common denominator in all these deceitful plots was Kalonzo which, despite releasing the secret dossier with Raila and playing victim card makes him mischievous and as villainous as Raila is. Each abetted and connived against their colleagues in Nasa.

And when ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi introduced us to the politically loaded “deficit of trust” terminology, many assumed he had only Raila in his sight. Little was it known that he also had his quiver pointed at Kalonzo, too. For as it would unravel, in turned out that Oka was a holding ground for Uhuru’s Azimio slaughterhouse.

Kalonzo may have set out to paint Raila in the worst possible light and put a stamp of master deceptions permanently on his forehead but he ended up in self-incrimination, or did he perjure himself?

The Kalonzo shenanigans exposed the trust deficit in the two leaders. It emerges that they are self-seeking opportunistic leaders who Kenyans cannot entrust with rescuing this country from the economic doldrums it has sunk in.

The trust deficit factor will hence overshadow everything else and may torpedo a Raila grip on undecided voters. They could easily sway the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

It was not by accident that Mudavadi, on a trip to the US in a Kenya Kwanza Alliance delegation led by Deputy President William Ruto, found it necessary to rub it in by expressing dismay.

“I was only aware of the agreement we all signed as Nasa principals. It's unbelievable that our colleagues could go behind our backs to sign their own secret agreement," a shocked Mudavadi said.

This incident, call it a Kalonzo moment, exposes the arrogance of leaders in Kenya who think that the presidency is theirs to share at will like personal property. How on earth do you plot to share what isn’t yours? What audacity?

It is horrifyingly clear that such leaders lack respect for the voter and the Constitution they pretend to adhere to.

Unfortunately, the deceit against Kenyan people was finagled by a holly than thou, but now decrepit duo of Makau Mutua and Kivutha Kibwana.  The two have desecrated the hallowed legal profession. Maybe their exposure should prompt the law Society of Kenya to institute some form of deducting their resplendence.

Mutua refused to confirm the secret deal, despite prodding on KTN. His partner in crime, Kibwana did one better. He ridiculed how Kalonzo was easily fooled. He has insincerely thrown Kalonzo under the bus.

Using the age-old excuse Raila has perfected, Kibwana intent on exonerating Raila, is quoted arguing rather fraudulently “Because Mr Odinga never ascended to power in 2017 and Nasa no longer exists, Mr Musyoka cannot use their secret poll arrangement to negotiate”.

In form, Kibwana is admitting to deceit, connivance and be one other member of the trust deficit alliance.

A cynical Kibwana all along led Kalonzo down the garden path knowing the secret deal he had c-authored with Mutua would be a nullity anyway.

Kibwana, said in an interview on NTV on Wednesday that the pact became null and void the moment Nasa died. Basically, Kibwana and Mutua sold Kalonzo a skunk that he bought to support Raila in 2017.

Meanwhile their involvement in deceit opens the sphere of claims of State capture by cartels to the reality that it actually does happen and is happening in Kenya. It is a blemish that isn’t easy to erase. If Raila and Kalonzo, highly rated leaders, can connive to share presidential spoils, how can we trust them to honor national treaties?

What, we ask, lies behind the untiring effort by President Uhuru Kenyatta to have Raila succeed him? What ‘Kalonzo moment’ of their own lies hidden from Kenyans? Is it true that had the BBI seen the light of day, Uhuru would have been the premier in a copycat manner Vladimir Putin runs Russia?

Still, what about the cartel grapevine that Raila will not last one term and Uhuru’s brother Muhoho Kenyatta will take over having been fostered on Raila by Uhuru as his running mate 2022?

Per chance, the story goes, Muhoho would then in turn appoint Gideon Moi as Deputy President thus completing the dynasty circle of control of the Kenyan state?
