Kenyan gospel dancehall singer Hope Kid's first professional show was on December 12, 2012.

This was at gospel music heavyweight Daddy Owen's album launch.

Owen was launching his fourth studio album, Utamu Wa Maisha. Hope Kid had only one single.

However, the then little-known singer has since become a household name withing the region's gospel music industry.

Inspired by fellow Kenyan dancehall/ragga singer Mr Googz, he's now one of the most revered gospel "new school" dancehall singers in East Africa.

With many hit songs among them Holiday, Live Up, Delilah and Like a Dream, the singer is "bettering" himself each day.

He tells Word Is in an interview: "I've never stopped working on making my self better."

"I am still a young artiste but I have inspirations to be great in future.

"I do this while in the ministry of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through my music," says Hope Kid.

His just-released single titled General is already received positive media reviews and enjoying heavy rotation.

The single is the title-track, and the first, off his upcoming album.

On matters marriage, the singer (who's never been shy of flaunting his hot girlfriend Yvonne Orio) says that he will settle down when the time's right.

"We've been friends for a long time now but we are yet to settle in marriage," he says.

He adds, "She is still in college and she will be leaving the country for further studies abroad in the near future.

"It's good to give other people a chance to pursue their dreams, and I am giving her the chance to pursue hers.

"We will pick matters from there when she comes back."
