TANZANIAN singer Lady Jaydee (left) real names Judith Daines Wambura, is glad that she didn’t bear any children with his soon-to-be ex-husband, Gardner Habash.
The 35-year-old Yahaya hit-maker is already separated from the veteran radio presenter, as a formal process to their divorce. Speaking exclusively with Word Is, Jaydee said that it was her personal decision to divorce Gardner, after the marriage became too much for her to take.
“My marriage didn’t work out. I was not happy at all and that’s why I decided not to carry on. My husband was cheating on me and had become a drunkard, while I was working so hard and giving the relationship all that I was able to. I am just happy and thank God that I don’t have children with him.” she said.
She added that life has served her both “hot and cold” but it was such personal life experiences that makes her excel in music.
“All my songs are from personal experiences. Not a single one is a work of fiction. In my music career, I have won more than 30 awards. But I don’t consider myself as the best female artiste in East Africa. Every other artiste is best because they put all their efforts in showcasing their best abilities. I am no special,” says Jaydee, who has just released a new jam titled Give Me Love featuring South Africa’s Mazet and Uhuru.
However, the singer – who last year recorded with Kenyan singers Atemi and Jaya, and also worked as a brand ambassador for cosmetic line Oriflame Sweden and international sexual and reproductive health organisation Marie Stopes – urges African women to plan their families well.
She says, “African women just give birth to so many children. More birth control education is needed, especially in our villages, where very few women have knowledge or limited access to modern family planning methods.”
