Power Learn
Project Africa (PLP) has opened applicatIons for the sixth cohort of its
software development training.
“This is more
than a learning program; it’s a talent movement,” said Mumbi Ndung’u, Executive
Director of Power Learn Project Africa.
“We are not just teaching skills — we are
building a workforce that will define Africa’s digital future. The opening of
our 6th cohort reflects the demand, the progress, and the possibilities ahead.”
The 16-week
course targets youth aged 18 to 35 with an interest in technology.
It is fully
funded and available to learners from all 47 counties in Kenya. The training
includes front-end and back-end development, mentorship, project-based learning,
and hackathons.
“Through this
program, young Africans are not just being trained—they are being activated,”
said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC.
“This is how we
shape a future where African talent leads globally in tech innovation.”
The sixth cohort
follows the graduation of 300 learners from the PLP x Safaricom Hook Tech
Cohort. PLP reports over 20,000 graduates across Africa since 2021.
The program is
part of the #1MillionDevs4Africa campaign. Its goal is to train one million
developers and connect them to work and innovation.
PLP also runs the
PLP Talent Hub to link graduates with jobs, internships, freelance work, and
startup support.
“Africa doesn’t
have a talent gap—it has a deployment gap,” added Ndung’u.
“The skills are
becoming more and more available. We are calling on employers and investors to
step forward and engage this ready, capable, and committed generation.”
Applications are
open until June 21, 2025.
