Power Learn project opens applications for 6th cohort of tech skills program

The sixth cohort follows the graduation of 300 learners from the PLP x Safaricom Hook Tech Cohort. PLP reports over 20,000 graduates across Africa since 2021.

Power Learn Project Africa (PLP) has opened applicatIons for the sixth cohort of its software development training.

“This is more than a learning program; it’s a talent movement,” said Mumbi Ndung’u, Executive Director of Power Learn Project Africa.

 “We are not just teaching skills — we are building a workforce that will define Africa’s digital future. The opening of our 6th cohort reflects the demand, the progress, and the possibilities ahead.”

The 16-week course targets youth aged 18 to 35 with an interest in technology.

It is fully funded and available to learners from all 47 counties in Kenya. The training includes front-end and back-end development, mentorship, project-based learning, and hackathons.

“Through this program, young Africans are not just being trained—they are being activated,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC.

“This is how we shape a future where African talent leads globally in tech innovation.”

The sixth cohort follows the graduation of 300 learners from the PLP x Safaricom Hook Tech Cohort. PLP reports over 20,000 graduates across Africa since 2021.

The program is part of the #1MillionDevs4Africa campaign. Its goal is to train one million developers and connect them to work and innovation.

PLP also runs the PLP Talent Hub to link graduates with jobs, internships, freelance work, and startup support.

“Africa doesn’t have a talent gap—it has a deployment gap,” added Ndung’u.

“The skills are becoming more and more available. We are calling on employers and investors to step forward and engage this ready, capable, and committed generation.”

Applications are open until June 21, 2025.
