Google Docs is currently testing a feature that will allow users to attach files or applications and directly edit them on the platform.

All users will need to do is type “@” and the name of the file or application they are looking for, then edit before sending from within Google Docs.

According to Google, the feature is currently only available to third-party developers but it is expected to be rolled out globally to all users in January 2023.

In general, work tools are becoming more connected and integrated as they become more digital, and Google has some catching up to do if it wants to make Google Docs the centre of employees’ work universe.

When Google rolls out the feature for every user, you will be able to edit a Figma project with a colleague directly from a Meet call.

A Figma team project is a collection of files stored inside a team that you share with other team members.

The feature will also be available for its other collaboration platforms: Chat and Spaces.

These features are possible courtesy of a tech that Google announced at its Cloud Next event in 2022, called smart chips.

It basically supports embedding third-party features into Google platforms.

The aim here is to improve collaboration and a seamless working experience without users having to go from window to window all the time.
