Festivities are drawing near, shaggz fever should start kicking in

Time is coming when regular travelling to upcountry will be common, just like the golden days

In Summary

• Christmas is around the corner and I know most of us can't believe how quick this year has flown by.

• I know for most of us this was usually the time we would be excited to go to shaggz and have the rendezvous of the year, where we connect with family

Dashing through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, o’er the fields we go, laughing all the way.

Bells on bob tails ring, making spirits bright, what fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, dear reader.

Are you already in the Christmas mood?

Christmas is around the corner, and I know most of us can't believe how quickly this year has flown by.

We still have about one and a half months to finalise those 2023 goals and close the year with a bang.

Those business proposals can still be sent as there is still time to get a response and get that bag.

There is still room to kick that concert or friend hangout off the list.

There is still time to go on that trip and take it off the bucket list, time to start that business and get that positive outcome.

Those with wedding plans, there is still time to ring those bells.

Okay, the last one is a bit far-fetched for most of you if not some, no?

The festivities are here with us and the mood is 50/50, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be thrilled.

I know for most of us, this was usually the time we would be excited to go to shaggz and have the rendezvous of the year, where we connect with family. Especially when we hadn’t met most of them within the year.

Others would detest going on the excuse of no WiFi and no TV, but with the tech advancements today, this has changed and such reasons do not apply anymore.

There are also those who rarely go, while others go in shifts due to unsettled family wrangles, where one person does not want to face another member of the family.

Those with unsettled family issues, this is the best time to make amends or better yet, make plans to meet as a whole family and bury the hatchet.

Of course, it is not going to be that easy, but let’s put some faith in it.

This year, I know most of us will not be feeling the festivities as much. But if it turns out to be otherwise, then that will be amazing, considering Covid limited movement and even post, we needed time to recover.

I have had a couple of contemporaries complain of the state of the economy, which will be a limiting factor to some this time round.

I hear them, but the way this economy is treating us, I think we are going to be pushed to the point where we will be voluntarily rekindling the upcountry love.

There are some of us who grew and lost touch but soon, we will be forced to rebuild that connection.

Very soon, no one will be forcing us to go to the village during Christmas holidays.

I think we are going to slowly bring back the golden days, when Christmas was Christmas.

Those days when our mums used to throw down in the kitchen, and Christmas would slap.

I know for sure that I will carry that tradition with me for my children, just like my mother carried it with her for us.

As the festivities draw near, let’s turn the mood around and make it feel more… festive.

I know I will be back to wish you all 'Happy holidays'.
