Kenyan contemporary Christian music artist Daddy Owen has said he wishes he had not made his personal life public.
In an interview with Alex Mwakideu on Alex Mwakideu Live on YouTube, the musician described sharing his private life with the media as one of his biggest regrets.
The artist now prefers to keep it private.
“Because my first marriage collapsed, I have decided to do everything in private,” Daddy Owen said.
He cited the experiences of children of pastors to explain his decision, noting the societal expectations placed on them.
“Society judges the pastor's kid harshly. Because their father is a man of God, they expect the kid to also be a man of God,” he said on Tuesday, August 26.
Daddy Owen admitted that he had “opened the door too wide” for the public to know what was happening in his life.
He expressed admiration for artists such as Wyre and Redsan, who have managed to keep their personal lives private, saying that is the path he now intends to follow.
Beyond discussing his regrets about public exposure, the artist also reflected on lessons he wished he had learned earlier.
“I wish I had listened to my dad,” he said, explaining that as a young man, he underestimated the wisdom of the older generation.
He now recognises that his father’s advice was sound.
Daddy Owen also said he wishes he had started his family earlier.
“I wish I had my kids in my early twenties,” he said.
The artist noted that despite being financially stable, he regrets not beginning his family sooner.
