If history has taught us anything, it’s that regular folks suffer the most from meaningless wars. That these wars were not fought to protect the people. Rather, they were fought to serve the interests of the few.

We learned that most of these wars were completely avoidable. And that atrocities and crimes were committed by people who defended the purpose of the war.

Today is no different. Unlike the good old days of analogue television and radio, we can no longer be fed propaganda by the people dictating the agenda of the day because we can formulate our own opinion as we watch events unfolding live before our very eyes.

Thanks to fast internet, social media and a globalised network of connectivity, we can access information, data and bear witness to things happening on the furthest reaches of the planet.

If World War III broke out today and countries scrambled to mobilise their able-bodied young people to “fight for their country”, do you think Trump would send Jared Kushner and his unimpressive offsprings to the front line?

The heirs of thrones who wear military suits embroidered with medals of all kinds will be held behind forts and Castle walls. As it is today with all the young Israelis forced to serve in the IDF, Benjamin Netanyahu’s son has and is missing in action.

Then why should sons of farmers and daughters of scientists gear up to fight in a war they have no benefit in?

Sellouts like Ruto and other African dictators will pledge 1,000 military personnel or workers to be sent to fight in a war that is of no concern to us. We have neither weapons nor artillery to enable us to participate in any capacity in these wars or fights among the top guys. When they selectively made groups such as Nato and the G7, we did not have a seat at the table. Why should we then be convinced to fight a war of brothers?

Should the big guys with access to nuclear weapons decide to invoke a war, then the people should go home, bar their doors and wait for them to fight it out. Because as much as these countries think it's easy to fight each other, they think of themselves as the kings on the chessboard. Sending pawns to be sacrificed in the name of the king. A king protects his people, right? Why doesn't he dash about the board, protecting the powerless pawns?

Just like in a game of chess, the big cahoonas like Trump, Kim Jong Un and Putin will hide behind their fortresses as they order people to sacrifice themselves for their countries. The aristocrats will hide in their safe havens and the Elon Musks of this world will literally get on a rocket to another planet and let everyone blow themselves up.

In my travels among many European countries that were the battleground for World War II, I have met many people who have had no fear in confessing that their grandparents who lived through the war always warned them to never enlist in fighting a war. The old people were wise. They saw the aftermath of the war. They saw how they went back to demolished homes and struggled while the elite went on to become even richer.

Every generation from GenX to the baby generation of Betas needs to learn from the mistakes of the past. Should these unstable world leaders carelessly bombing each other decide to take it to the next level, we should all go into hiding. I'm okay with dying in my bed as a victim than dying in the front line as a glorified soldier in a war I did not choose.
