The National Dialogue Committee has recommended that the results of the 2022 election be scrutinised by an independent "reputable firm" along with various other proposals.
President Ruto has pledged to fully implement the talks report although some Azimio members refused to sign it because it did not deal adequately with the cost of living crisis.
It is good that the NDC has agreed to audit the election results. They have been a source of contention as opposition leader Raila Odinga has continued to insist that he beat President William Ruto comfortably in the election. The IEBC and the Supreme Court both declared Ruto the legitimate winner.
The Kenya Kwanza team has been reluctant to allow Azimio operatives access to the servers because it feared that data could be manipulated there. However, if a recognised audit company does the inspection, there will not be any fraud.
It is unlikely that inspection of the servers will change the election result as no Form 34A has been challenged and over 44,000 forms were posted in real time on the IEBC website.
Still, it will be good for the country to put this matter permanently to rest.
