Rekindling the flame of patriotism is not about blind nationalism or unquestioning allegiance. It's about fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collective pride. It's about recognising the beauty and potential of our nation and actively contributing to its advancement.

Today, we are gathering around the country to celebrate our 60th Jamhuri Day. Kenya, a 60-year-old nation is at a point where we need a reminder of what Jamhuri Day is all about and what role we all have to play to make this nation greater.

As we celebrate Jamhuri Day, we are not only commemorating Kenya's independence but also reflecting on the values that have held us together as a nation. Two of these core values stand out: patriotism and unity of purpose.

Patriotism is more than just waving the flag or singing the national anthem. It's a deep sense of love and responsibility for our nation, a commitment to its progress and prosperity. It's about recognising our shared history, appreciating our unique culture, and contributing to a better future for all Kenyans.

This spirit of patriotism is essential in a nation as diverse as Kenya. We come from different ethnicities, religions and backgrounds, but we are all united under the Kenyan flag. This unity of purpose allows us to overcome challenges, work together towards common goals and build a stronger nation.

Unfortunately, sometimes this unity seems to fade. We witness divisions based on political affiliations, tribal differences and economic inequalities. These divisions threaten the very fabric of our society and hinder our progress.

Jamhuri Day is a stark reminder of the importance of putting aside our differences and coming together as one nation. It's a time to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom and the dreams they held for our future.

The Kenyan spirit is renowned for its resilience, warmth and unwavering optimism. Yet, we often fall short when it comes to displaying that same spirit towards our beloved nation. Patriotism, that unwavering commitment to our nation's progress and prosperity, seems to flicker faintly in the hearts of many Kenyans.

This lack of patriotism manifests in various ways. We readily criticise our nation's shortcomings, highlighting flaws and failures without acknowledging the achievements and strides we have made.

We disregard laws and regulations, prioritising personal convenience over national order. We readily embrace foreign cultures and products, neglecting our own rich heritage and traditions.

This erosion of patriotism has real consequences. It hinders national unity, discourages civic engagement and undermines our ability to tackle shared challenges. It creates an environment where negativity thrives, hindering investment, innovation and progress.

Rekindling the flame of patriotism is not about blind nationalism or unquestioning allegiance. It's about fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collective pride. It's about recognising the beauty and potential of our nation and actively contributing to its advancement.

Patriotism is not a passive sentiment; it's an active commitment. By embracing our shared identity, celebrating our successes and actively contributing to our nation's progress, we can reignite the flame of patriotism and build a brighter future for all Kenyans.

This Jamhuri Day, let's actively recognise and celebrate the successes of our nation – from the advancements in technology and infrastructure to the triumphs of our athletes and artists. Let the stories of Kenyan excellence inspire us all.

Kenya is a tapestry of diverse cultures, languages and traditions. Let's embrace this richness and learn from each other. This unity in diversity is a powerful source of strength and resilience.

Our natural beauty is a national treasure and today, let's actively protect our environment, ensuring its sustainability for future generations.

By patronising local businesses, we contribute to the growth of our economy and empower our fellow Kenyans. Let ‘Buy Kenya, Build Kenya’ not be just another slogan but a way of life.

Let's actively participate in community initiatives, volunteer for causes we believe in and hold our leaders accountable.

This Jamhuri day, let us remember that our collective action shapes the future of our nation. Let's rise to the occasion and show the world the true spirit of Kenya – a nation united, strong and fiercely proud.

Remember, our individual actions, multiplied by millions, can create a wave of positive change. Let us be the generation that truly embodies the spirit of Jamhuri Day, a generation that rekindles the flame of patriotism and builds a nation that is truly united in purpose.

Happy Jamhuri Day.
