OSORO: Agriculture is not hectic, encourage youths to take part

•Several youths are taking agriculture to be a hectic and difficult field to participate hence influencing their peers not to participate in agriculture.

Kenya is considered to have very fertile land for agriculture.

Most parts of the country receive adequate rainfall suitable for agriculture.

A high number of Kenyan citizens depend on agricultural activities to help them provide for their needs.

For years now the agricultural sector is slowly losing manpower.

Since independence, the number of youths in the agricultural sector has decreased since most youths are now going for white collor jobs.

With youths having the highest population in the country, they are expected to provide labour in the agricultural sector.

Several learning institutions have the least number of students in the agricultural field.

Several youths are taking agriculture to be a hectic and difficult field to participate hence influencing their peers not to participate in agriculture.

Despite having agriculture as a subject in secondary school and a course in the higher learning institutions, students turn out to have attained paperwork only hence lacking the essential skills required in the field of study.

If youths are promoted to participate in the agricultural sector they will create a lot of job opportunities, promote business, improve living standards, growth of the economy and even help to solve the current challenge of the high cost of agricultural products.

With agriculture, the country will be in safe hands away from hunger and other agricultural challenges.

Its high time for the government, stakeholders and people in authority to find a way to promote youths to participate in agriculture.

Agricultural activities will solve most of the challenges that the country is experiencing.

For example, the high unemployment rates among youths, an increase in crime, and high cost of living among others.

Youths have the power to feed this country through agriculture. Let’s promote youths to participate in agriculture.
