Governor Rotich names new executives in Elgeyo Marakwet

He fired all those appointed by former governor Alex Tolgos.

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has named a new team of county executives firing all those appointed by former governor Alex Tolgos.

Rotich served as deputy governor under Tolgos but he did not retain any of the executives he worked with.

He however, ensured that he balanced representation from the Marakwet and Keiyo communities—the two main Kalenjin subtribes in the county.

“Our people have high expectations and my desire is to get a team of officers that will help us discharge our mandate effectively,” Rotich said.

The governor nominated Alphaeus Tanui from Keiyo South to be the Finance and Economic Planning executive.

Edwin Kibet from Marakwet West will head the Agriculture docket while Edwin Kibor from Marakwet East has been nominated for the Education department.

Michael Kibiwott has also been nominated to head Health services. He is from Keiyo South.

Jason Lagat from Keiyo North will take charge of the Water and Environment docket, while Thomas Maiyo from Keiyo North will head the Lands docket.

Emmy Kosgey from Marakwet West will head the Roads and Public Works sector, while Robert Kiptoo from Marakwet West will head the Trade and Co-operatives department.

Purity Koima from Keiyo South takes over the Sports and Youth docket, while Monicah Rotich from Marakwet West was named Public Service and Devolution executive.

“I have forwarded the list to the county assembly for vetting and consideration,” Rotich said.

The county chief was also expected to name several advisers and other senior officers to serve in his administration but this was delayed amid intense lobbying within his team.

Governors Stephen Sang of Nandi and George Natembeya of Trans Nzoia are also expected to name their county executives this week ahead of vetting by their respective assemblies.

The governors will also address the assemblies to start off sessions following completion of election of speakers, their deputies and formation of departmental committees.

Sang who is serving his second term sent home all the executives he served with in the first term.

In Trans Nzoia, Natembeya had pledged to ensure he forms an all inclusive administration comprising what he termed as “the face of Trans Nzoia.”

He is expected to name an executive that will include all communities in the largely cosmopolitan county.

In Uasin Gishu, Governor Jonathan Bii named new county executive members and sent home all those appointed by former governor Jackson Mandago.

Bii named 10 new county ministers and forwarded the list for vetting by the Uasin Gishu assembly.

“After lengthy consultations and interviews I have picked those who will help me deliver on our mandate as we promised the people of Uasin Gishu,” Bii said.

More than 600 people had applied for the 10 positions, which had been advertised by the county government.
