Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi has denied claims he is in bad books with Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
In an interview with the Star, he downplayed rumors that he is being frustrated by the governor on the basis of his tribe.
He attributed his good relationship with Waititu to the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
It was alleged that Waititu was targeting Omondi when he in January demolished some kiosks near a public toilet the MCA had renovated.
Details:
The demolition saw youths from the area staging a demonstration accusing the governor of destroying their livelihood.
Gatundu MP Moses Kuria and Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura also defended the MCA saying his supporters voted for him as their leader.
The ward representative installed electricity and water in the public toilet that had stayed idle for a long time.
"The demolition really brought us down but now that we have the handshake, the governor and I are now back on track," he said.
Popularly known as Cyro, the MCA had vied twice in 2007 and 2013 on an ODM ticket but always came second.
He decided to dump ODM ahead of the August 2017 elections after he was convinced by local residents and his group.
"With ODM you cannot make it in this area but I still had numbers," he said adding how he was discouraged from running in an area dominated by Kikuyus.
"I had to convince a lot of people, especially those inclined to the ODM party, that I had to move," he said.
The first-time Luo MCA in Kiambu said tribalism was still a stereotype deep in some people, especially elderly persons.
"The young people are mature and understand. Wazees unfortunately still don’t believe a Luo can be an MCA in Wendani," he said.
He said Uhuru himself was amazed when he got elected as an MCA in Kiambu adding that he will not leave Jubilee as it has changed his life, his family, and constituents.
Omondi advised his colleagues from other counties to take after Kiambu whose speaker Stephen Ndichu he says has promoted dialogue on issues.
He backed the action of Nairobi MCAs in the vote to impeach Speaker Beatrice Elachi saying the representatives knew better.
Omondi said his main focus is the youth and women of Kahawa Wendani adding that he remains focused on his campaign pledges of better infrastructure, employment, and security.
The MCA hailed progress made in fixing most of the roads in the ward and installation of 55 streetlights.
The Jubilee MCA said by August next year, his area will no longer experience water shortage after the completion of the Sh24 billion Kariminu 2 dam.
