
Police arrest woman, recover 154 rolls of bhang

Police officers in Kakamega have intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting packages of bhang.
Officers from Matungu police station stopped the vehicle during a routine patrol along the Matungu–Busia Road.
The vehicle was intercepted and searched at Matungu Market.
During the search, officers discovered a brown briefcase containing two polythene-wrapped packages.
“Upon inspection, the packages were found to hold a dry, leafy substance suspected to be cannabis sativa,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement on X.
The suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody pending arraignment.
The recovered items have been secured as evidence at the same station.
“NPS remains committed to combating drug trafficking and related crimes through intelligence-led operations and enhanced patrols to dismantle criminal networks involved in the distribution of illicit substances.”
In collaboration with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), police have intensified efforts to curb the growing menace of drug abuse and illicit alcohol across the country.
The crackdown has been hailed as a critical first step in reclaiming the country from the grip of drug-related crime.
On Monday, June 9, three suspects were arrested after being found in possession of 50kg of cannabis sativa (bhang), 30 hash-infused cookies and 810 rolls of bhang.
The arrests took place during an anti-narcotics operation conducted by NPS officers in Nairobi’s Kasarani area.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court,” the NPS confirmed in a statement posted on X.
The seized items are being held as evidence at the same facility.
Meanwhile, in Bungoma West subcounty, police arrested a woman and seized 154 rolls of cannabis sativa during a successful raid in Nabuloli Village.
The operation was carried out following a tip-off from members of the public and targeted the suspect’s homestead.
The confiscated drugs have been preserved as evidence as police prepare to take further legal action.
