The government has responded to a devastating fire that broke out at Stage Woria in Kawangware, Nairobi, claiming one life and rendering 14 families homeless.
Through the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, the State Department for Special Programmes led an emergency response, delivering crucial relief items to affected families.
Emergency supplies, including foodstuffs, beddings, soaps, and dignity packs, were distributed to the victims following an early morning assessment visit by the Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku.
He said the intervention underscores the government's continued commitment to responding promptly to disasters and alleviating the suffering of affected communities.
"In the face of increasing fire outbreaks, floods, and landslides, especially in informal settlements, the government remains proactive in its disaster response efforts," CS Ruku said.
The CS assured the public of the government's unwavering commitment to ensuring that all affected Kenyans receive timely support and assistance.
The CS emphasised that to provide long-term solutions, the government is also intensifying its affordable housing programme, aiming to replace vulnerable informal structures with dignified, low-cost housing in urban villages.
He noted the Ministry, through the State Department for Special Programmes, reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Kenyans through timely interventions and sustainable development initiatives.
Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, senior officials from the State Department for Special Programmes, and local National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) were present during the relief exercise.
