President Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, is urging Kenyans to put an end to the growing tensions between millennials and Gen Z, calling for a “generational cease‑fire” to foster unity and dialogue.

In a recent post on her X account, Charlene said it was time for older and younger generations to come together. “It’s time we embrace a generational cease‑fire immediately,” she stated.

“Let’s adopt more civil and objective alternatives like intergenerational dialogue, sound policy recommendations, and active lobbying for sensible reforms,” she added.

Charlene placed part of the blame for the current tensions on millennials, saying, “We as the older brothers and sisters who understand both generations have failed to mediate for peaceful coexistence, provide leadership and clarity in tough times, and offer guidance to our young people—alternatives that don’t necessarily lead to violent riots, deepen wounds, or encourage radicalization and, in the worst cases, tragic loss of life.”

She warned that anger and aggression were tearing the country apart.

“Violence, revenge, ‘rage hunting,’ cancel culture, hooliganism, cyberbullying, and riots will only erode our national character, radicalise our youth, and breed dangerous instability,” she said.

Charlene has long advocated for making Kenya a better place for all.

On July 11, 2024, she emphasized the need for reflection and healing as a nation while visiting young people injured during recent protests.

"I believe it’s time to reflect and heal as a nation as we search our deepest postures of patriotism, forgiveness, and integration as one people. God bless Kenya! We are one,” she said.

During the visit, the First Daughter expressed gratitude to those who came to the aid of the injured.

“It was an emotional day visiting some young people and members of the public who found themselves as unfortunate victims of the chaos that surfaced in recent days,” she added.

On July 5, Charlene also asked youths to seize the opportunity and use it to articulate their issues during President Ruto's engagement with Kenyans on X.

Charlene, in a message on X described the opportunity as a "chance of a lifetime" that can better be utilized by engaging constructively.

"Young people, the chance of a lifetime awaits you. I encourage you to use it wisely and engage constructively because you are the ones who will determine the continuity of such levels of discussion for your success," she said in a statement on X.
