Poll: Half of Kenyans believe Trump presidency will have negative impact on country

At least half of Kenyans believe Donald Trump’s second term as United States President will have negative impacts on the country, this is according to a new survey by Tifa Research.

In the poll, only 24 per cent believe it will positively impact Kenya, while another 18 per cent believe it will not make a difference.

Some 8 per cent were not sure.

In the survey, support among those who back the broad-based government and those against it was largely similar, with a majority of both saying the impact will not be good.

They polled 54 and 52 per cent respectively.

The same was seen in those who feel Trump’s impact would be good for the country at 21 and 25 per cent, respectively.

The USA and China also topped among countries considered most important for Kenya’s economic and political development, and countries that represent the greatest threat to Kenya’s development. They ranked positions one and two in both instances.

The Survey was conducted between May 2 and May 6, 2025, among 2,024 respondents across nine zones, including Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western.

It was conducted through Telephonic Interviews (with respondents whose contacts were collected through face-to-face (i.e., household-based interviews)

The interviews were conducted in Kiswahili (mainly) and English.

The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.17% .
