Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has settled on the Kasarani Stadium Gymnasium as the venue for the launch of his new party Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
In a letter seen by the Star, Gachagua, through the party’s interim Secretary General Hezron Obaga, booked to use the Kasarani gymnasium on June 3, 2025.
The party said they expect at least 5,000 participants during the launch
“The event is expected to host approximately 5,000 attendees, including party members, supporters, invited guests, and members of the press.
“We plan to use the facility for speeches, performances, and interactive sessions aimed at unveiling our vision, manifesto, and leadership to the Kenyan public,” the letter reads in part.
The management of Kasarani then responded with an invoice for the amount the party should pay for the venue.
This comes just a few weeks after Gachagua, in an event that most people assumed to be the launch of the party, unveiled the interim officials.
It was also the first time he was unveiling the identity of his party, which he had been working on over the last few months.
Speaking while unveiling the name of the party on May 15, 2025, Gachagua said the names had been submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties for ratification.
Among those named in the party were former UDA and Jubilee heavyweights, including ex-UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala, who was named deputy party leader.
Former Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was named as the interim National Organising Secretary, while former Starehe MP will chair the caucus of eminent persons.
Former Laikipia Woman representative Catherine Waruguru was named as the national women leader, while David Mingati from Kajiado was named the national chairperson.
