
President William Ruto has relayed Kenya's message of support to 21-year-old female driver Tianshe Gitamu who will lead local drivers during the competition.
The Head of State gave the message of support while officiating the World Rally Championship (WRC) 2025 Safari Rally flag-off ceremony at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC) on Thursday.
“The entire country is rallying behind you. We will be cheering you on. Go make Kenya proud!” Ruto said at the ceremony.
The Head of State encouraged youths to participate in motorsports activities.
“We also want to create more opportunities for young Kenyans to participate in motorsport. To this end, the Government of Kenya will support the FIA’s Affordable Cross Car Project, which aims to develop motorsport talent globally,” he said.
The president also confirmed that the government supports the idea of the Gazooo Racing Team to engage drivers amd mechanics in training.
This competition is another achievement for Kenya, as it puts the country on the tourism map owing to its sporting culture and heritage.
The president lauded the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for working hand in hand with the ministries of Interior, Tourism, Environment and the county governments of Nairobi, Kiambu, and Nakuru to make the event possible this year.
The president shares his appreciation with the sponsors of WRC and hopes for future collaborations for more quality events.
“I also wish to thank our corporate sponsors for their invaluable contributions and encourage the private sector to continue partnering with the government to host world-class events,” he said.
Furthermore, the president encouraged fans of motorsports to show up in large numbers in Naivasha to enjoy the thrilling WRC 2025 Safari Rally.
“To all Kenyans and visitors, welcome to Kasarani and Naivasha for the WRC Safari Rally. Stay safe and bring your families along to enjoy the spectacle. The ongoing rains in Naivasha are a blessing, and we anticipate that the 2025 WRC Safari Rally will be one of the toughest yet most exciting editions ever,” Ruto said.
