In this article, The Star provides a list of known politicians who died in 2024.

Here is the list;

Raphael Ndung’u - former Lamu Deputy Governor

Former Lamu County Deputy Governor died on September 6, 2024, while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

He was mourned by several leaders including President William Ruto as a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the people of Lamu.

⁠Simon Ogari – former Bomachoge MP

Former Bomachoge Chache MP Simon Ogari is another politician who died in 2024. He served the constituency between 2013 and 2027. He was also an Assistant Minister in the Transport docket. Before becoming Bomachoge Chache MP, Ogari had served as Bomachoge MP from 2007 – 2013.

He died at his Karen home.

⁠Zebedeo Opore – former Bonchari MP

Former Bonachari MP Zebedeo Opore died in October 2024. He died at a hospital in Nairobi where he was undergoing treatment.

His family said he had been in and out of hospital.

Opore served as Bonchari MP for three terms and also served as Assistant Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

⁠Beatrice Nkatha – former Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative

Former Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Beatrice Nkatha also died in October.

Nkatha died while she was receiving treatment at Kiirua Mission Hospital in Meru.

She served as Woman Rep for two terms from 2013 to 2022.

⁠Oloo Aringo – former Alego-Usonga MP

Former Alego-Usonga Constituency Member of Parliament died on November 1, 2024.

Other than serving as MP for five terms, he was also Minister of Education and the man who introduced the now-defunct 8-4-4 system of education.

He also served as Minister for Information and Broadcasting before he was moved to Environment and Labour.

⁠Suleiman Murunga – former Kimilili MP

Former Kimilili Member of Parliament Suleiman Kasuti Murunga died in October 2024, after a short illness.

Murunga served as Kimilili MP from 2013 to 2017.

⁠Mark Wainaina – former Murang’a nominated MCA

Nominated Member of County Assembly Mark Wainaina died while undergoing treatment.

Ezra Kihara - former Kiambu nominated MCA

Ezra Kihara, a Nominated MCA at the Kiambu County Assembly died after his car was involved in an accident.
