A Burundi national was electrocuted as he mopped a floor in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The deceased, identified as Bosco Nkarakaza, 25, was mopping the floor of a hotel where he worked when the incident happened on Wednesday.
He was rushed to Ruiru Level Four Subcounty hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was moved to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem. Police said they are investigating the incident.
It is believed the floor had been connected to live and naked wires, which caused the electrocution.
A team from Kenya Power visited the scene and announced an investigation had been launched.
Most electrocutions are linked to illegal power connections.
The government has rolled out a programe to rectify the illegal connections, especially in informal settlements where such incidents are common.
This will have financial implications, officials say.
A house that had two siblings was
affected by the fire, police said.
The mother of the children told police
she had left to fetch vegetables for supper when the incident happened.
She had left her two children, aged five
and two, when the fire broke out.
The fire trapped the younger one, killing him while the elder one managed to escape, police and witnesses said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be
established, police said.
The body of the minor was moved to the
mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
A separate fire incident in Mukuru
slums flattened several structures, leaving many homeless. Police said they are
investigating the incident.
In the past month alone, at least 17
people have been killed in separate fire incidents in Nairobi.
The incidents left dozens homeless, officials
say amid campaigns to ensure faster response to the scenes whenever they
happen.
For instance, eight people were killed last month in a fire incident in Kibera slums. Five others had been killed in
Mathare slums.
