The majority of Mt Kenya residents are opposed to Deputy
President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment, Tifa's latest survey has said.
In the poll, at least 69 per cent of Mt Kenya
residents do not support his removal from office, with only 20 per cent in
support.
However, less than half of Kenyans from other regions
are in support of Gachagua's impeachment, at 47 per cent.
28 per cent are opposed to his removal, while 24 per
cent are not sure from the other regions.
Some of the main reasons given for opposing his ouster
include being attacked unfairly, His leadership, performance and honesty, as
well as the need for the DP and the President to work together among others.
The Mt Kenya residents gave the Deputy President a good
performance rating at 59 per cent, however, only 27 per cent of Kenyans from
other regions believe he has performed well.
The national survey was conducted from October 1 to October
4, 2024.
It was conducted through Telephonic interviews in 1,892
people across the counties proportionate to population size.
The margin of error was +/- 2.25%.
