Detectives are holding two people deemed persons of interest in the ongoing probe to unravel the mystery behind the macabre killings of women in Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Kware area, Nairobi.

A key suspect was arrested Monday morning in Kayole’s Soweto area but police believe he was not acting alone in the murders of 42 women he confessed to have killed and dumped their remains at a dumpsite in Kware area within the sprawling slum dwelling.

The man told police he killed his victims by strangling them and dismembering their bodies before dumping them in the dumpsite some 100 metres away from his one-room rental house.

He alleged that his wife, Imelda Judith Karenya, was his first victim in 2022.

In a statement on Tuesday, DCI boss Mohamed Amin said Imelda’s national ID was among nine ID cards found in the suspect’s house.

“Meanwhile, the body of a victim of the suspect's killings namely Roselyn Akoth Ogongo was yesterday (Monday) identified at the Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) by her family, who also witnessed the autopsy process conducted at the same facility,” Amin said.

He said the victim’s sister positively identified her handbag which she was last seen with when she stepped out on the day she disappeared never to be seen alive again.

“Meanwhile, two other persons of interest being held by investigators to assist in the ongoing investigation include one who was found with the mobile phone belonging to the slain Roselyn Akoth and one who sold the handset to him,” the DCI boss said.

He said upon the arrest of the first suspect at City Cabanas on Monday, he led detectives to the second suspect’s house at Mukuru kwa Reuben in whose house detectives found 154 used mobile phones.

The suspect, he said, admitted to having been sold used phones previously by the prime suspect in the murder.

“Once again, the DCI wishes strength and comfort to the affected families and pledges our utmost commitment to deliver justice to the victims of these merciless and abominable killings,” Amin said.

“We extend our gratitude to the families and friends of the deceased, and the public for continuously sharing valuable information with our investigative team, enabling significant progress in this inquiry,” he added.

Meanwhile, the prime suspect in the murders was on Tuesday arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts where the court granted investigators 30 days custodial orders to complete their investigations.
