Spokesperson in the Office of the Fourth president Kanze Dena has claimed that only two official trips undertaken by Uhuru Kenyatta have been honoured by the government.

Addressing the media on Monday, Kanze said since former president Uhuru Kenyatta retired, he has undertaken several official trips related to the roles and duties he has been engaged in.

Dena alleged only two of such trips have been honored by the State to date.

"The trip to Ethiopia on matters concerning the peace process led by the African Union and the one to Burundi which was the 11th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the East African Community, on issues pertaining to the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo," she claimed.

She alleged that the office submitted other requests for facilitation of trips but received no response.

According to Kanze, Parliament allocated Sh655 million to the office in the Financial Year 2022/2023.

"To date, the office can only confirm spending Sh28 million spread across payment of allowance for domestic travel as well as facilitation of the two official trips that have been honoured so far," Kanze alleged.

This, she said, is approximately 4.4 per cent of the total budget that year, excluding payment of salaries and medical insurance.

Kanze claimed the government has failed to aid the office run its affairs.

Kanze claimed the government has not been delivering on its mandate to provide for Uhuru's office as stated in the Presidential Benefits Act.

"It is difficult to assess and understand why the actions from State House have been taken. What we know is that there has been a reluctance to aid the office of the former president," Kanze alleged.

In the Financial Year 2023/24, which is coming to an end, the office was allocated Sh503 million.

According to Kanze, nothing has hit the account of the retired president from the allocation.

"This year is ending without the office having any access to this allocation. The total amount for the two years that we have not had access to is approximately Sh1 billion," she claimed.
