The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has now rendered the Mai Mahiu route impassable advising motorists to find alternative routes.

In a travel advisory, the agency has told motorists plying the Naivasha and Narok routes to expect heavy traffic congestion today.

According to KeNHA, approximately 700 meters from Mai Mahiu towards Naivasha and 1km from Mai Mahiu towards Suswa/Narok have been affected.

“These areas are heavily affected, with road blockages reported. Currently, traffic is at a standstill around Mai Mahiu centre,” KeNHA said.

It has attributed this to the heavy rains in the catchment areas of Kinale and Kijabe have led water courses to experience an upsurge which has led to the washing away of debris and several houses.

"Motorists are advised to expect high traffic congestion around Mai Mahiu. Road users are expected to plan their routes accordingly and exercise caution when travelling through the affected areas,” it said.
