Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has commended Kenya's decision to send police officers to Haiti on a peacekeeping mission.
Akufo-Addo said Kenya's decision to send police officers to Haiti shows she is committed to helping fellow black people anywhere in the world.
"Kenya's decision to send police officers to help bring a semblance of calm and stability to Haiti was very commendable as part of her commitment to the welfare of black people everywhere, even though there is a temporary pause in the deployment," he said.
He went on to heap praises on President William Ruto, saying that the myriads of challenges he has faced in his life have moulded him into a great leader.
"These achievements are not surprising to many. Your life struggles as head of the local church choir, chicken seller, school teacher, a two-time member of parliament, Minister for Home Affairs, and Minister for Agriculture. Higher and education, first elected deputy president have indeed prepared you for the tough task of being president," Akufo-Addo said.
He added that Ruto has become one of the greatest African voices of his time
"Apart from your commendable domestic performance, you have in the course of your first term becomes one of the strongest voices of the African continent on two of the greatest issues of our time, climate change and the reform of the international monetary system," he said.
Ruto was also bestowed Ghana's highest honour, The Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta.
This is in recognition of his leadership and commitment to principles of accountability and due process for all citizens.
Akufo-Addo praised President Ruto as an “example of a new generation of African leaders” dedicated to upholding principles of accountability and due process to all citizens no matter their status in society
He pointed out that Ruto had done this regardless of the complexities or potential political consequences.
“Under your leadership, Kenya has become a shining example of a nation governed by the rule of law,” Akufo-Addo said
The Ghana President also pointed out that under President Ruto's leadership, Kenya has regained its place of pride on the international stage.
President Akufo-Addo cited Kenya’s international resurgence and achievements such as declining inflation, start-up growth, and increased access to housing and health insurance for Kenyans.
This is President Ruto's first visit to Ghana since he took over the presidency in September 2022.
Kenya and Ghana have already signed seven agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries.
