Met: Most parts of the country to remain sunny, dry this week

Forecast, however, shows that a few parts of the country will record rainfall

Most parts of the country will be sunny and dry this week, the forecast by the Kenya Metrological Department says.

The weekly forecast covering the period between March 19 and March 25 , however, shows that a few parts of the country will record rainfall.

These include a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands and the Coast.

“High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30oC will be experienced in a number of counties,” the weatherman warns.

Some of the counties likely to record extremely high temperatures during the forecast period include Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir,  Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Taita Taveta.

Others include Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui, Nairobi, Laikipia, Baringo, West Pokot, Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Vihiga and Narok.

“Average night-time (minimum) temperatures are likely to be low (less than 10oC) over some parts of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties,” the forecast says.

During the forecast period, temperatures are expected to rise to as high as 40 degrees Celsius in Mandera and Lodwar during the day, 39 degrees Celsius in Garissa, 37 degrees Celsius in Voi and 36 degrees Celsius in Lamu and Msabaha.

Mtapwa, Mombasa, Makindu, Malindi and Suba are predicted to record temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius during the day while Kakamega, Nakuru, Embu, Thika and Kitui will record daytime temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius.

During the forecast period, the temperatures are expected to drop to as low as low as 6 degrees Celsius in Nyahururu, 9 degrees Celsius in Laikipia, Kabarak and Narok, 11 degrees Celsius in Kitale and Eldoret and 13 degrees Celsius in Nairobi during the night.

According to the forecast, counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi are likely to record sunnly mornings with light showers over a few places.

During the forecast period, these counties are expected to record afternoon and night showers over few places.

The forecast shows that the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale will record morning, afternoon and night showers over a few places.

The afternoon showers may occasionally spread to several places.

The Southeastern lowlands counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta will experience morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers over a few places.

North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo are predicted to record sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

“Occasional morning rains and afternoon showers are however expected over the southern parts of Garissa County,” the weatherman says.

Counties in North-western Kenya which include Turkana and Samburu will have sunny days and partly cloudy nights during the forecast period.

Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley will record sunny mornings with light rains over a few places.

They include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.

These counties are predicted to record afternoon and night showers as well as thunderstorms over few places.
