President William Ruto is embarking on a two-day development tour of the South Rift region to launch and inspect various projects.

Ruto's tour will begin in Kericho on Thursday where he is expected to launch the construction and upgrade of key roads and also the affordable housing project.

The tour programme shows that the Head of State will start by presiding over the opening of a modern ICT lab at Belgut Technical Institute (BTTI) and the launch of the Kapsurer-Sosiot road.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot said the ICT facility will not only be used by the school but also by the members of the community.

"The centre has been renovated, ready, and will be commissioned on Friday by the President," Cheruiyot said during an inspection.

“The students will use the facility from 8 am to 5 pm and later the youths from the community will be allowed to use it,” he said

"Youth will be taught how to access, apply, and get digital jobs."

Ruto will then commission the new passport centre in Kericho town and later lay the foundation stone for the construction of the affordable housing project.

The Head of State who will be accompanied by his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua will later launch the construction of a modern market at Chepseon in Kipkelion East.

On Friday, Ruto and his brigade will troop to Bomet where a series of activities including the upgrading of town roads have also been lined up.

Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was in the county on Tuesday to inspect the particular projects ahead of the visit.

“Inspected the ongoing upgrading of roads in Bomet town, including those linking to government offices and an affordable housing project, which will soon be launched by the H.E. President William Ruto,” the CS said.

The Cs said that his Ministry is working to upgrade 7km of roads in Bomet town through the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura).

This, he said is in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda in which the government pledged to improve the urban road network as an enabler for agricultural development, trade, health and related services.

“As in other counties, we are seeking the support of the Bomet county government to acquire land for the expansion of Itembe Airstrip to boost connectivity,” the CS added.

Ruto was last in Kericho on October 20, 2023, where he presided over Kenya's 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Kericho Green Stadium.

This followed another visit in July 2023 to commission the Kericho water supply project in Ainamoi.

The Sh1.2 billion Kimugu Water Project will enhance water supply across three constituencies.

The project is set to produce at least 13 million litres of water every day.

"It will benefit at least 200,000 households with a 50-kilometre pipeline across Belgut, Kipkelion East, and Ainamoi constituencies," Ruto said.

The project will ease the perennial water shortage in Kericho town and trading centres within the county.
