Residents of Bungoma were Thursday treated to a rare spectacle as the giant abnormal load which has gained nationwide attention made its way through the town.

Drawn by curiosity, the locals flooded major trading centers turning the routine hustle and bustle into a celebration-like atmosphere.

The "extra wide and high abnormal" load which has become the source of internet sensation is on a journey from Mombasa to Malaba.

A public notice by a company behind the transportation stated that the cargo would be transported from KPA through Mariakani-Kitui-Nakuru-Molo-Kitale and other major towns along the highway to Malaba in the over a month journey.

"All users using this road are requested to exercise extra care and caution in the vicinity convoy from February 8, 2024, to March 31, 2024," read part of the notice.

The locals jostled for vantage points with their phones to take pictures of the strange load as it snaked through the town causing a heavy traffic snarl-up that only added to the spectacle.

The company did not state what the load was with Kenyans speculating about a vessel cargo.

The mysterious load has been fully sealed and is being escorted by police and Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) officers to help ensure a smooth passage along the highways and to avoid any damage to the electric lines.

The company transporting the cargo offers regional transportation of bulk oils, petroleum products and general cargo.

It also transports containers, and project cargo handling and transportation of pieces and machinery with weights up to 75mt.

Additionally, it deals in the movement of any out-of-gauge consignment beyond a width of 3mtrs, and height of 3 meters or heavy pieces beyond weights of 40mt, or project cargo destined for remote locations.

One of the residents who spoke in an interview said he has been eagerly waiting for the truck to pass the town.

He said he has been monitoring its movement on YouTube.

“I have been waiting here along the Webuye-Malaba highway since 11 am just to catch a glimpse of this mysterious,” said the local.
