ICT Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eliud Owalo was among the delegates hosted by King Felipe VI of Spain at a high-level dinner during the Mobile World Congress.

The dinner was attended by different  international delegates on Sunday at the Museum Nacional d’Art de Cataluna in Barcelona, Spain.

“This official dinner was for the High-Level  invited guests, before the commencement of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona,” CS Owalo said.

During the dinner, King Felipe VI made his speech on his expectations of Spain's government efforts to employ technology for governance.

“Technological changes can be quite overwhelming of which digital transformation has become a challenge that all areas of our economy and governance must face,” Felipe said.

The King also mentioned challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence in driving the economy, especially in future generations of mobile phones.

“All the actors in the expanding mobile ecosystem work together to guarantee that networks become more adaptable, automated, profitable and robust, providing companies and consumers with new solutions,” Felipe said.

CS Owalo will lead the Kenyan delegation at the Mobile World Congress which commences officially on Monday, February 26.

"On  February 27, 2024, I will be the guest speaker during the Kenya National Dialogue, where I will launch Kenya's digitalization study in collaboration with GSMA," Owalo said.

CS Owalo hopes to engage in diplomatic talks in the hope of hosting next year's congress.

“During this event, I will lead the Kenyan delegation to meet with the GSMA Events team to cement Kenya’s bid to host the GSMA Mobile World Congress – Africa 2025,” Owalo said.

Mobile World Congress 2024 is one of the largest technology shows which will take place in Barcelona, Spain. Each year the event showcases the latest mobile innovations on offer.

The event will also attract a gathering of the world's leading tech titans to Barcelona, showcasing the pinnacle of mobile innovation.

Some of the major inventions set to be showcased are Lenovo's transparent laptop, Motorola's bendable device that can be worn like a bracelet, and Samsung's Galaxy ring among others.

Chinese firm, Honor Magic 6 Pro on Sunday showcased technology which demonstrated eye-tracking technology in the smartphone.

The phone uses selfie cameras and artificial intelligence which sense where your eyes look on screen to track.

The different renowned mobile brands have taken to social media sending out teasers of the upcoming launches.
