Police are investigating two separate murder incidents involving women following suspected domestic fights in Nairobi.

Detectives handling the incidents said they are unrelated and the killers are known.

The first incident happened when a 24-year-old woman died in hospital after a domestic fight with a man residents said was her boyfriend in Nairobi’s Githurai 44.

Police identified the woman as Grace Wangari adding the incident happened Saturday, January 20 night.

Neighbours said they heard screams from where the woman stayed with her boyfriend and rushed to her rescue.

The neighbours alerted police who rushed to the scene and rescued the woman who was taken to a local clinic with head injuries.

She was later transferred to Kiambu Level Five Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said she had bled excessively by the time she was rescued and taken to hospital.

The man was later arrested at the scene and booked at Kasarani police cells for murder.

He said they fought over domestic differences.

Police said they are pursuing murder. A postmortem exercise is planned on the body of the woman as part of the probe into the murder.

The man was Monday expected in court for a miscellaneous application to enable police to investigate the murder.

Elsewhere in Kiambiu slums in Nairobi, a 40-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband in a domestic fight.

The body of Mercy Atieno was found in her house long after the incident had happened on Saturday night, police said.

The suspect behind the incident is yet to be traced.

A blood-stained knife was recovered at the scene, police said.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.

The incidents come in the wake of a murder probe of women who have been killed in the recent past.

This has prompted calls from various parties for action to address the perceived trend.
