At least two people were killed at a quarry while taking shelter from heavy rains in Silibwet, Bomet County.

The police said the two were part of a group working at the quarry when it started to rain.

They then decided to take shelter when a section of the quarry caved in. Witnesses said efforts to retrieve the bodies were ongoing.

They were, however, being hampered by the heavy rains experienced in the area. Most parts of the country experienced heavy rains on Friday and Saturday.

The Kenya Meteorological Department issued an advisory on the imminent occurrence of intense rainfall across various regions of the country over the next seven days.

According to the agency, the areas primarily affected will include the Western, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Highlands (including Nairobi), South Eastern, and South Coast regions.

Isolated storm conditions are expected in the Highlands east of Rift Valley, Nairobi county, South Rift Valley, and the Eastern Lowlands, the department said.

North Eastern and North Western Kenya will predominantly encounter dry weather conditions during this period.

Meanwhile, police in Bomet County are holding a 72-year-old man for killing his 23-year-old grandson during an altercation.

The man used an arrow to kill the victim in Chepalungu area, police said. The police said they are investigating the incident that happened at the old man’s home.

Chepalungu subcounty police boss Phanton Analo said police have since confiscated the suspected murder weapon while the deceased’s remains were moved to Kapkatet Mortuary waiting for an autopsy.

The suspect is expected in court Monday.
