Uganda Civil Aviation Authority has urged citizens to ignore a trending video of the leaking roof of an airport.
Through a statement, the authority termed the incident as an 'unfortunate situation at an airport in a neighboring country'
"Please ignore the trending video, some WhatsApp users have wrongly attributed it to Entebbe International Airport," the statement read.
"Note that this is not Entebbe International Airport."
The undated video of the leaking roof of Jomo Kenyatta Airport made its way to social media earlier this week, with Kenyans calling for action, and others terming the incident as an embarrassment.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Managing Director Henry Ogoye on Wednesday in a statement said the airport has suffered inadequate facility and infrastructure capacity upgrades in the last 10 years.
“…even temporary interventions became permanent solutions hence the current state of affairs in service disruptions,” he said.
He however said the government has commenced the process of addressing the infrastructure development of the facility.
“The board, management, and staff of KAA are aligned to the concerns of the public and are implementing the government’s civil aviation investment programme to facilitate seamless, efficient, and effective service delivery,” he assured.
Following calls by netizens, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in a statement distanced his ministry from the issues, and faulted retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime for doing a 'shoddy' job in maintenance.
He noted that there were other 12 airstrips across the country that were not well maintained.
"When we got to the office, we found out that many of our airports are in a pathetic state and JKIA leaking is a result of that," he said.
Murkomen said the renovation at JKIA in terminal 1C and I1 was sub-standard because it was only meant to serve temporarily.
