Kenya honoured to host King Charles III and Queen – Ruto

Ruto said Kenya is honoured to be the chosen country for their first visit to a Commonwealth nation.

President William Ruto on Monday met the British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan.

The meeting at State House is ahead of the State Visit by King Charles III.

President Ruto said Kenya is honoured to be the chosen country by the King and Queen for their first visit to a Commonwealth nation.

"Kenya is honoured that King Charles III and Queen Camilla have chosen our country for their first visit to a Commonwealth nation. This choice is a testament to the depth of our relations and the mutually beneficial nature of our partnership. The visit is a significant opportunity to enhance our collaboration in various areas of shared interest," he said.

Also present during the meeting was Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will from October 31 to November 3, 2023, be in Kenya for an official state visit. 

There will be activities lined up for the two leaders for the four days they will be in the country. 

According to a statement released on October 11, the King and Queen will visit Nairobi County, Mombasa County and surrounding areas.

Upon arrival, their Majesties will be greeted in Nairobi with a ceremonial welcome at State House.

Later, they will each attend bilateral meetings, separately.

The King will be with President William Ruto while the Queen with First Lady Rachel Ruto.

After their separate meetings, Ruto will host a State Banquet at State House, Nairobi.

"Their Majesties’ programme will reflect how Kenya and the United Kingdom are working together, notably to boost mutual prosperity, tackle climate change, promote youth opportunity and employment, advance sustainable development and create a more stable and secure region," the statement read.
