Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is currently chairing a joint meeting of the United Democratic Alliance over the party’s planned polls in December.

The meeting at the UDA Hustler Centre headquarters is being attended by members of both the National Steering Committee and the National Management Committee.

The meeting comes at a time when the party is planning to hold its grassroots elections in December amid raging internal squabbles.

President William Ruto, the UDA party leader, is keen on credible and fair polls as he revs up his reelection machine.

He and Gachagua have decided that he will personally take charge of the party’s planned elections to ensure nothing goes wrong.

An earlier strategy meeting agreed the President would visit party headquarters once every month to check on progress while his deputy would visit twice every month.

In September the President held a long meeting with the party officials at the Hustler Centre in Nairobi where they released the roadmap for the polls.

The party's National Governing Council meeting held at Bomas on September 29, ruled that the outfit resolved that the elections shall be conducted on December 9, 2023.

The party is already facing internal feuds over leadership positions ahead of the December polls.

Kimilili MP Didmus Baraza has asked the UDA National Executive Council (NEC) to dismiss acting secretary general Cleophas Malala on claims he is an ODM mole.

“By weakening the leaders from Western Kenya, he is basically laying the ground for ODM to thrive in 2027 elections,” Baraza claimed.

According to Baraza, asking the two leaders and other MPs from the region to show the number of people they have employed and the number of development projects they have brought to the region is an attempt to discredit President William Ruto's government.

"He has been unable to match Edwin Sifuna of ODM who is his equal," he claimed

Speaking on Friday when he addressed UDA National Women Congress at Bomas of Kenya, the DP assured party supporters of the unbreakable unity between President Ruto and himself.

He said the country's leadership's sole focus is improving the lives of the people.

"The Government under the able leadership of President William Ruto is united, solid and stable. There can never be division or conflict. That is a creation of people who are living in denial," the DP said.

Gachagua said those propagating lies of fissures in Kenya Kwanza administration were only envious of the progress the government was making a year after coming into office.

"There are many people who gave the President no chance. They are now envious that he is succeeding. He has become a darling of the international community. He is progressing on economic transformation so they want to imagine that there can be a problem," he added.
