At least 12 people have lost their lives in a grisly road accident involving a Nissan shuttle and lorry in the Ndii area in Voi, Taita Taveta County.
The two vehicles collided head-on resulting in the deaths on the spot. The accident occurred at 4.20 pm on the Nairobi – Mombasa Highway.
Voi OCPD Bernstein Shari confirmed the incident to the Star and said three people who sustained injuries have been rushed to hospital.
"We are currently at the scene. So far, I can confirm 12 deaths and two injuries. We are organising transportation of the dead bodies to the morgue and the injured are already in the hospital," Shari said.
The shuttle belonged to Genesis company.
It was heading to Mombasa at the time of the accident.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Moi Referral Hospital morgue in Voi.
The injured are receiving treatment at Moi Referral Hospital, Voi.
